ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects a person’s ability to focus, control attention, and regulate impulses. It can also involve challenges with hyperactivity or excessive movement. Some individuals with ADHD may also experience higher levels of activity or act impulsively, though this is not true for everyone.
At Focused Care Psychology, we follow the DSM-5 guidelines, which means that to receive an ADHD diagnosis, a person must meet specific criteria. These symptoms should cause significant challenges in different areas of life, such as at home, school, or in the workplace. At Focused Care Psychology, we take the time to work with you and thoroughly assess how these differences affect your daily functioning.
If you're considering an ADHD assessment for your child, you're not alone. Many parents seek a diagnosis to better understand their child's unique behaviour and any difficulties they may be experiencing. A clear diagnosis can help guide appropriate support and interventions.
At Focus Care Psychology, we make the process as straightforward and stress-free as possible. We know it can feel overwhelming, but our team of experts is here to help. With a compassionate, thorough approach, we provide professional, tailored assessments to ensure an accurate understanding of your child's needs. Our qualified specialists are committed to delivering high-quality assessments that focus on your child's individual strengths and challenges.
There are many reasons why you may want an assessment for ADHD. Getting an ADHD diagnosis will help you understand your differences as well as the challenges you face because of them. Although the route to assessment can be daunting at times, we are here to change that. Our team is friendly, knowledgeable and qualified to deliver high quality assessments.
We currently only offer ADHD assessments through the privately funded route. If you are not sure yet proceeding with a full assessment, you can come to us for a screening appointment in the first instance. This is an initial evaluation that would cover the probability of receiving a diagnosis. The cost of an ADHD screener is €150. You can also make use of the free 15 minutes consultation, if you have doubts on how to proceed.
The service fee for an ADHD assessment is €1000. We aim to complete a full report in two weeks. Additional support services are available upon request.
Once a decision is made, you will be scheduled for a feedback meeting, typically held online, with your assessment coordinator. During this meeting, they will share whether the person assessed has been given a diagnosis. If no diagnosis is made, the coordinator will explain that the challenges your child is facing may be due to other factors and may suggest alternative support options. You’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions about the outcome. This meeting usually lasts up to 30-50 minutes.
Following the feedback session, you will receive a full report in two weeks.
